These goji berries are dried and 100% organic. They are red and taste sweet and sour. By drying, the goji berries have very concentrated nutrients. Goji berries are rich in antioxidants, contain vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, iron, copper, nickel, chromium, magnesium, sodium, calcium and 19 different amino acids. All this makes the goji berry the richest fruit in the world, a true superfood.
The goji berry can be consumed in different ways. The berry itself can be eaten as a snack. It can also be boiled in water and used as a tea. In addition, the berries can be processed in smoothies and yoghurt.
Processing into freeze-dried powder
Our organic powder is made from goji berries, grown on the Qinhai-Tibet plateau in southwest China. Referred to as the ‘roof of the world’, the 2.3 million km² area has an average altitude of over 4000m and is the largest plateau in the country. Due to the altitude of the plantations, the growing goji berries enjoy clean, pure air and the nutritious Himalayan glacier water. These conditions, along with the long hours of sunshine, make goji berries from this region one of the most nutritious in the world.
The harvested fruit is then transported to a processing centre where it is freeze-dried at -54°C. This process ensures that the goji berries retain their original taste, colour and, more importantly, their highly valued nutritional value. After this, the dried product is checked and quality tested. Finally, it is ground into a fine powder.
This goji berry powder is a hygroscopic product.
The box elder
The Goji Berry is a shrub/tree from which the goji berry grows and originates from China. This tree was imported into Europe in the 18th century. The long, curved branches have thorns. The leaves are grey-green and the flowers purple. The berries are about 2 cm long and orange-red in colour. Before they are dried, they are rich in juice and burst quickly.
The goji tree can withstand all weather conditions, varying between -26℃ in winter and 40℃ in summer. After a growth period of 2 years, the first berries are produced. Goji berries are grown on a plantation along the Yellow River in China. In this area, 3000 trees are planted per hectare, where they grow in width. The trees grow to a height of approximately 1 metre and produce 1 kilogram of Goji Berries per season.
